About Us

Armagh Cider Company will be based on the apple farm of Philip and Helen Troughton. It was here that the family's forefathers have grown apples for over 100 years. Currently Ballinteggart apples are used in the cider industry in the Republic of Ireland as well as the processing industry and retail trade.

The company is in a unique position as Northern Ireland is the only apple producing area in the UK and Ireland not to have a cider industry and it is this niche market that the company intend to address.

There is a history of cider making in Northern Ireland: In 1682 the Rev W Brooke wrote from Portadown that cider was being sold at 30 shillings per barrel and that some people were making 20 - 30 barrels per season! In fact King William sent his cidermaker to Portadown to make cider for the army!

The company is in a unique position as it has a large amount of apples being grown on the farm. It also allows the company's cider to be made with a unique blend of Bramley's Seedling (indigenous to Co Armagh) and quality homegrown juice apples.
